What are acrylic blocks?
Solid acrylic blocks also called acrylic display blocks are commonly used as cube display risers in retail, museums and art galleries. How do you use acrylic blocks for stamping?
An acrylic block used for stamping is also called stamping block, a stamp block, or an acrylic stamp block. As the pros at Alte New point out, "a stamper without an acrylic block is akin to a painter without a paintbrush." Most stampers have acrylic blocks in an array of sizes to fit their various needs.
New photopolymer stamps can be sticky at first, so you'll need to prep them before using. You do this by rubbing a rubber eraser all over the stamp.
Then, remove the stamp from the acetate sheet and place it onto the acrylic stamp block. Some blocks have grid lines to help with placement. Use an acrylic block that is slightly larger than the stamp to achieve optimal results.
Ink up your stamp by lightly patting the ink pad onto the stamp—and be sure not to press the ink pad too hard or tilt it from side to side.
Stamp the inked stamp image down and firmly press all parts of the image onto the cardstock. Again, never tilt your acrylic stamp block from side to side as it may produce ink flooding or image distortion, just press on it gently.
Remove the acrylic stamp block to reveal your stamped image.
Are acrylic blocks reusable?
Yes! You can use your acrylic blocks repeatedly—you simply need to clean them in between uses.
How do you clean acrylic blocks?
You can use a stamp cleaner (like this one) and a stamp shammy or chamois (check out this one), but you can also easily use disposable wet wipes or baby wipes to get the job done.
